F-150 Lightning 2022

The all-new, all-electric 2022 F-150 Lightning combines top-notch performance with unprecedented fuel efficiency in a professional-grade utility truck.

440 Ford, your reference Ford dealer on the North Shore of Montreal, tells you all about it below. Continue reading to discover everything it can do!

History of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

Lightning: the name that Ford uses to highlight the power and performance of its trucks. This name, which was abandoned in the early 2000s, is now being used for the sports variants of the F-150.

The first generation, called Ford SVT Lightning, was produced from 1993 to 1995 and was based on the 9th generation F-series. A second version, based on the 10th generation F-series, was officially launched in 1999 and sold until 2004.

In May 2021, Ford resurrected the Lightning name with the 2022 F-150 Lightning: the fully-electric Ford truck.

2022 F-150 Lightning: Versions, Availability and Prices

The 2022 F-150 Lightning pays tribute to its past while pushing the boundaries of the present. That’s why it was designed to combine the iconic power and capabilities of Ford trucks with modern environmental concerns, in a way that only a 100% electric pickup can do!

But make no mistake: it’s still an authentic F-150, so you know it’s tough as nails!

Launching in the spring of 2022, it will be available in 3 versions (XLT, Lariat and Platinum). It’s MSRP* is expected to range from $68,000 (XLT variant) to approximately $110,000.

The new Lightning: iconic F-150 style with a futuristic twist.

Let’s talk about its exterior design, which will be the first aspect of the 2022 F-150 Lightning that you fall in love with when it arrives at 440 Ford, not far from Montreal and Boisbriand.

The suspense is over: the new Lightning incorporates every feature you’ve come to expect from Ford trucks, and gives them a fresh and futuristic twist. For example, it is equipped with the very intimidating headlights that we know and love from the F-150 family, but they now include a band of light that starts at the end of each headlight and extends around the hood, surrounding the upper side of the grille. The same is true for the rear lights: you will immediately recognize it’s a Ford truck from behind, but the lights now extend over the rear door of the tailgate.

The grille is rectangular, and the whole exterior relies on straight lines and a more cubic shape. When we consider its increased ground clearance, the new all-electric Ford truck looks downright intimidating, but also very reassuring. One thing is for sure: the 2022 F-150 Lightning is proud to show that it can handle even the toughest jobs in the Montreal area!

2022 F-150 Lightning: a spacious interior for leisure and work

Let’s move on to the design of the interior. Ford is once again breaking trends with its avant-garde style, using very clean lines and sharp angles for the dashboard.

Its interior is also very spacious, and can comfortably seat every passenger. It is ideal for a weekend getaway with family and friends!

This sturdy and reliable cab will keep up in even the most demanding job sites. Ford uses the highest quality materials exclusively and its meticulous workmanship ensures that it performs just as well over time.

The 2022 F-150 Lightning can also function as your mobile office. Its optional dedicated interior workspace fits over the stowable shifter, allowing you to work on your laptop and take calls. It is also a very convenient surface on which to write or sign documents.

Wishing your F-150 had a frunk?

The F-150 has always been the king of trucks, particularly when it comes to cargo space and versatility. To honour that tradition, the new Lightning goes one step further by offering a frunk.

The term “trunk” is a contraction of “front” and “trunk” and refers to a large cargo compartment at the front of a vehicle, where the combustion engine is usually located.

What’s more, the front compartment of the 2022 F-150 Lightning isn’t just a simple frunk: it is equipped with four 120V power outlets totalling 2.4kW as well as two USB outlets (one Type A and one Type C).

This front compartment offers an additional 400 L of cargo space! Its cargo capacity is of 400 lbs. With stowing space at the front and back of your truck, you’ll have all the space you need for both leisure and work!

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning: let’s talk engines and power!

Powertrain/Battery and Power

Beyond all its advanced features, the 2022 Ford F-150 is above all a very high-performance truck. That’s why the new Lightning offers the choice of two powertrains. The table below presents their specs and capabilities:

As you can see, you can equip your 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning XLT or Lariat with either a powertrain with 426 hp and a range of about 370 km with the standard battery, or with the powertrain with extended-range battery, which provides 563 hp and a range of 480 km according to the EPA.

What’s more, depending on the version chosen, you can recharge your battery from 15% to 100% in just 8 hours with a level 2 plug. If your 2022 Lightning is equipped with the extended-range battery, plugging it into a 150 kW DC fast-charging station will charge it 15% to 80% in just 41 minutes!

The Platinum trim comes standard with the improved powertrain for maximum performance.

Every version of the Lightning comes standard with a 4×4 transmission. All of the fully-electric horsepower generated is managed with a single-speed transmission.

Towing Capacity, Cargo Capacity and Payload

You better believe that all of this power and performance translates into very exciting capabilities. The 2022 F-150 Lightning raises the bar in terms of maximum payload and towing capacity.

You will not be surprised to learn that Ford’s 100% electric truck is a powerhouse, as shown in the table. In fact, with the larger battery, this very special F-150 can tow up to 10,000 lbs.
