The world of pickup trucks will soon expand with the appearance of the new 2019 Ford Ranger. Announced at the last North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the new generation of the well-awaited Ranger will return on our roads of the West Island of Montreal, in Laval and in Blainville on the North Shore of Montreal, at the start of next year. Knowing the reputation of the manufacturer with regards to trucks, let’s bet that the little brother of the F-150 will also meet with resounding success.
If there is something that Ford knows how to do well, it’s how to build a truck that wonderfully fulfill the requirements of a clientele that knows exactly what it expects from this type of vehicle. Indeed, half a century of being first at the sales level year after year proves it unequivocally. Therefore, the know-how and expertise of the Blue Oval in this matter will inevitably reflected with its 2019 Ranger.
Do you know the expression: “One compares oneself to console oneself”? Well here, we will compare the 2019 Ford Ranger to the 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Of course, this is not only an expression, because while Toyota products are renowned for their reliability, in the truck department, without trying to offend anyone, Ford has mastered the art of building sturdy, with great performances and exceptional capacities. But let’s play fair and still continue with this comparison, in a healthy spirit of competition.
The 2018 Tacoma is available in 8 versions, at prices varying between over $33,000 and over $50,000. The SR+ and SR5 entry-level versions are powered by a 2.7-litre 4-cylinder engine developing 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. No match for the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine of 350 horsepower, yes, the same one which is found inside the Mustang, and the 10-speed automatic transmission, which are both found inside the F-150.
To get a superior power output on the Tacoma, you will have to opt for a more expensive model, equipped with the 3.5-litre V6 engine of 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. And the same goes for dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, the 7-inch touchscreen display and the skid plates.
As for the Ford pickup truck, it is available in 3 versions, the entry-level XL, the XLT and the Lariat, the most upscale of the lot. Three packages are available, namely the Chrome Appearance, FX4 Off-Road and Sport Appearance. Two cab configurations are offered, the SuperCab and the SuperCrew.
The trim that will attract off-road lovers the most is without a doubt the FX4. Fitted with off-road-tuned shocks, all-terrain tires, frame-mounted skid plates and a Terrain Management System that has 4 driving modes: Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud Ruts and Sand, as well as a thick steel bash plate mounted on the frame.
Then comes the Trail Control technology, adapted to low speeds and difficult terrains. The latter controls acceleration and braking, by distributing power and braking force to each wheel so that the driver can concentrate on the road. Following this, the intelligent trailer tow connector alerts the driver to any problem pertaining to the trailer hitch.
A Dana Trac-Lok differential and an electronic locking rear differential come standard with the FX4, but are also available as options on the other models. If there still are unexplored and rough trails in the West Island of Montreal, in Blainville or in Laval on the North Shore of Montreal, the Ranger FX4 will be happy to help you discover them.
Now that you know a little more about the new 2019 Ranger, it’s easy to understand why you might be eager to try it, we also are. But it should not be long, its production is planned for 2018 in Michigan, at our neighbours to the south. It should arrive at the beginning of 2019 at your Ford 440 dealer located in Laval, only a few minutes from the West Island of Montreal, and in Blainville on the North Shore of Montreal.
